Welcome!
The Portland Orff Schulwerk Association serves music educators in Oregon and Southwest Washington, promoting and supporting the teaching and enjoyment of music for the whole individual. Join us! Membership in POSA comes with benefits: reduced admission to workshops, a twice-yearly newsletter, use of our instrumentarium, and the knowledge that you are doing your part to spread the word about Orff Schulwerk in the Pacific Northwest. POSA is a chapter of AOSA, the American Orff Schulwerk Association.
POSA hosts three to four Saturday workshops a year, featuring internationally-known presenters. “Workshop” may not be the best term for it, as these events are likely to be the highlight of your week. Orff Schulwerk pedagogy is learned hands-on, the same way it’s applied in the classroom. You’ll be on your feet, dancing, playing, singing, performing, laughing, and learning at a far deeper level than you would sitting at tables taking notes. We kick it off in September with “Orff 101,” a half-day introduction to Orff methods and materials taught by the POSA board. Workshops in October, February, and April bring in presenters from other parts of the country, and are full-day (9-3) events. In alternating years, POSA hosts a weekend retreat in place of the April workshop. POSA members receive reduced admission to workshops. Continuing education and clock-hour documentation is available at all workshops, and for a small additional fee, graduate credit can be earned through Portland State University.
Find Some Orff Books a New Home!
Linda Kranovich (lkranovich@comcast.net) recently retired from a long career teaching elementary music. She has “many Orff books plus Kodaly, drum, keyboard, recorder, and other curriculum that I am ready to sell. There are not any instruments though.” Contact her through her email address if you’re interested.
